Welcome 

The pages found on the navigation bar will tell you a little bit more about who I am, what I believe, and what I've been up to as an international educator over the past 8 years. Below you'll find what we've been up to currently as we re-imagine the role Health & Physical Education plays in our lives during this global pandemic. 

Joy & Meaning in PE @ Palliser District Teachers Convention

On February 18th, 2021 I had the privilege of speaking at the Palliser District Teachers Convention, it was a great opportunity to share how my philosophy related to teaching has changed over the past 9 years and provide teachers with strategies and examples of how to emphasize greater Joy & Meaning in their Physical Education classes. 

HPE in the Virtual World

While teaching HPE in an online environment is not without challenges, the current global pandemic also presents unique opportunities for our discipline to helps students and families navigate through this difficult time. I am fortunate to work with a great team here on Jeju, that sees HPE as more than physical activity, and despite the hurdles, strives to ensure that the 'e' remains in physical education. The online environment has allowed us to empower students to pursue their own interests on a flexible schedule that suits their needs.

"On Your Own" (OYO) Sessions: Centering around thematic topics of mindfulness, social/games, individual challenge, fitness and the outdoors, we post weekly tasks that students can complete 3 times weekly and upload evidence to Google Classroom. These sessions are recommended for self-motivated students with strong time management skills who want to get away from the screen and may be uncomfortable exercising in front of others on video.

Live Sessions: Again, I work with a great team who are committed to meeting the needs of students. During our schedule PE classes as well as at lunch, after school and occasionally in the evenings, we offer a number of live sessions on Zoom. These sessions are recommended for students who like to have a set routine and schedule and who don't mind being on camera exercising with some of their peers. These sessions are both activity based, as well as social to ensure we provide time to address students holistic well-being. 
Individualized Approach to Health: With the use of google classroom, my co-teacher and I developed a modular approach to nutrition that allowed students to learn at their own space about the nutrition-related topics that interest them the most. The summative task was also differentiated, as students had the opportunity to create a personalized two-week meal plan, an instructional cooking video or an advocacy project for change in our school community.
